When I first became a mom, a SAHM, I swore that the day I stopped doing my hair (make up has never been mandatory for me on weekends), or any of those little things we do to take care of ourselves, that I should just throw in the towel. Well, I don't do my hair every day any more, which isn't so bad, but the fact that I do very little for myself is something I definitely need to work on.
A recurring conversation I've been having with other moms lately is how we, as mothers, rarely make/take time for ourselves. It's not the 'doing hair & make up every day' type of time, it's the 'ME time away from household/kiddo obligations' kind of time. It's the 'thinking of myself every once in a while' type of time that I'm talking about here. A perfect example of this is that I will take the time to make sure that my son has sunscreen on whenever we go for walks or spend any time outside...but I don't take the extra couple of minutes to put some on myself. The end result? I've gotten unnecessary burns, and the amount of unprotected sun exposure I've received is horrible -- why don't I think about myself too, even for something so minute?
I recently decided that I have to take the time to do little things for myself, carve out a little time or add an extra step, because I'm no good for anyone else if my needs aren't met and I've not been caring for myself. For many of us, this concept looks great on paper, but is very difficult to put into practice, and for that reason, I started doing baby steps towards having some 'Lauren time'. The first step? Putting lotion on after my morning shower.
Green Team Distribution originally sent me Earth Mama Angel Baby's Body Butter to use on my growing belly, but I've recently been using it on my sunburnt skin, and yes, I am actually taking the time to apply lotion after my shower each morning (baby steps). I will admit, I am a huge fan of EMAB products...for my son, but again, I hadn't thought to treat myself to their wonderful natural products!
If you're not familiar with Earth Mama Angel Baby (EMAB), they are a company that makes wonderfully natural and organic products for both mom and baby. We use the body wash for our son, and absolutely swear by the Bottom Balm (which we use daily). You can read my review of EMAB Bottom Balm HERE. While I've not tried them since miscarrying, I love that EMAB also makes natural, nurturing products for women who have lost their babies.
I have enjoyed treating my skin (as I should) with Earth Mama Body Butter, hydrating it with the creamy combination of shea butter, organic herbs and essential oils. I can't remember the last time my skin looked so good! My skin tends to get really dark in the summer (especially when I'm not using sunscreen), and I'm happy to report that I can no longer 'write' on my skin with my fingernail! Another wonderful thing about this lotion is that it is lightly scented. I am not a fan of strong scents, and the EMAB Body Butter has a light citrus-y scent that reminds me of an orange creamsicle - light and refreshing! I encourage you to do something nice for yourself and treat yourself to some of Earth Mama Angel Baby's natural products for mama!
In the spirit of "one for you and one for me," Green Team Enterprises is giving one lucky reader an Earth Mama Angel Baby pack, with EMAB Bottom Balm for baby and EMAB Body Butter for mama. That's right, one lucky reader will get to treat both her baby and herself!
